Prayer For All-Round Growth
Reading: Luke 2:40-52
“40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.”
Generally, growth is the most dynamic thing in life. Whatever is alive grows. One of the fundamental happenings in everyone is growth. The only sign of life in almost everything is that growth is taking place.
Our focus in today’ devotional prayer bombs is a prayer for all-around growth. According to the dictionary, growth has been defined as the process of becoming larger and more mature through natural development, and it connotes an Increase in numbers, size, power or intensity. Moreover, growth is a process that can be called maturation. Maturation is the process of becoming mature, ripe, or more developed. It’s a pity that many are growing in age, status but not growing in wisdom and knowledge of God. They are not in the process of making themselves more mature spiritually. That’s why a 40 years old man will behave like 15 years child. As a child of God created in the image of God, we are expecting to be all-around growth, involving in the process of developing a balanced manner.
Growth is the major characteristic of a healthy living thing. If you are not all-around growth then you’re not healthy.
The Bible affirmed that; Jesus Christ is the perfect example of all-around growth. “And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.” Luke 2:40.
The 3 most important aspects of growth manifest in the life of the Lord Jesus as stated in the above Bible verse:
- He became strong – Physical Growth;
- He was filled with wisdom – Intellectual growth; and
- The favour of God was upon Him – Spiritual growth.
God expects that you grow all-round as Jesus Christ grows. One of the reasons why you are a child of God is growing to maturity which includes spiritually, morally, intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically.
“You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts.” Jeremiah 12:2
God planted you to grow and bear fruits. As you are growing in age so also you must grow spiritually and others. Your growth of today will determine where you will be tomorrow.
“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the LORD, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green,” Psalm 92:12-14
If you desire to experience all-round growth, you must:
- Genuinely born again. John 3:3-5. Your born-again experience is an open door for you to enter into a relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit that will cause us to grow.
- Flee from sin and any ungodliness.
- Make it mandatory to study and meditate on your Bible daily it is a source of growth for all Christians.
- Obedience to the word of God. Luke 8:14-15
- Filing with the power of the Holy Ghost. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, you are called to become more like Jesus Christ and grow like Him.
- Pray for it. Colossians 1:9-10
“The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” Luke 17:5
Beloved, growth is not automatic, neither does it work like a magic wand. It is a matter of taking responsibility and start working on it every blessed day.
“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:12-14
Have you noticed what God is telling you in the above Bible verses? How old are you? How old are you as a believer? Is your attitude and actions prove that you are growing in the status of God? If you are not solid in the word of God, you are still an infant! If you are among the people that see the message of their pastor as abusive, you are still an infant and you need deliverance.
Apostle Paul said:
“But when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.” 1 Corinthians 13:10-12
Beloved, it is time to realize the level of your grow and take the necessary steps. You have to start today, start growing today, and see your potentials take a giant, leap forward.
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,” Colossians 1:9-10
